Two saveable sheets for your painting table: common mistakes with fixes, and six brush shapes to explore.

Tips before you begin
Use fewer strokes, blot excess water, avoid adding water as a wash begins to dry, test a small pigment palette, and let layers dry before glazing. Practice with a round brush for lines and washes, a flat for crisp bands, a mop for broad washes, a liner for thin stems, a filbert for petals and a fan for grasses. Brush size, pressure, paint and paper change the mark. Make a small practice page and treat the sheet as a starting point.
